Ozone in Diabetes and Metabolic Health: Redox, Circulation, and Clinical Research

Short answerThe potential effects of medical ozone on redox response, microcirculation, and certain metabolic biomarkers in diabetes and metabolic health are being investigated. Application is personalized while maintaining glycemic control, cardiometabolic risks, and existing treatments.

Metabolic structure of diabetes

Insulin resistance, visceral adiposity, hepatic metabolic dysfunction, inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and oxidative stress are interrelated. Therefore, metabolic health is not evaluated solely through a single glucose measurement.

Metabolic assessment

HbA1c, fasting glucose and insulin, triglyceride-HDL ratio, ApoB, hepatic steatosis, blood pressure, and body composition should be evaluated together.

Why is ozone being investigated?

Hyperglycemia can contribute to oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction. In controlled hormetic applications of medical ozone, effects on the endogenous antioxidant/redox response, inflammatory signals, and microcirculation are being investigated.

Pilot human study

In a pilot study involving 21 patients with type 2 diabetes and 14 healthy volunteers, reductions in GDF-15 and LDL levels were reported in the diabetes group following major autohemotherapy. The exploratory nature of the study provides valuable preliminary data for confirming these metabolic signals in larger controlled studies.

HbA1c data

In a randomized study of 100 patients with diabetes and periodontal disease, a reduction in HbA1c was observed in both groups. The lack of a significant difference between groups suggests that rather than glycemic outcomes, ozone’s potential contribution to other targets such as inflammation, periodontal health, or redox response should be investigated separately.

Comprehensive treatment plan

The ADA 2026 approach personalizes lifestyle and pharmacotherapy according to glycemic target, obesity, atherosclerotic disease, heart failure, and renal disease. If an appropriate complementary target exists for medical ozone, it is evaluated in alignment with this fundamental metabolic treatment plan.

Our Approach at Our Bodrum Clinic

In metabolic assessment, alongside glucose control, we address insulin resistance, visceral adiposity, liver health, lipid profile, inflammation, and circulatory indicators together. When ozone is considered, we define the objective from the outset and monitor it alongside metabolic treatment through measurable parameters.
