Why is it important?
Increased visceral fat may be seen together with insulin resistance, elevated triglycerides, fatty liver, hypertension, and chronic low-grade inflammation. For this reason, in a longevity assessment, it is important to look not only at body weight, but also at fat distribution.
How is it evaluated?
Waist circumference, waist-to-height ratio, body composition via BIA, and imaging methods when necessary can be used. Rather than a single measurement, the trend over time is more valuable.
What reduces it?
Regular aerobic and resistance exercise, sustainable energy balance, adequate protein, sleep routine, and medical weight management when necessary can help reduce the visceral fat burden.
Our approach at our Bodrum clinic
We evaluate waist circumference and body composition together with glucose-insulin balance, triglyceride/HDL ratio, liver markers, and muscle strength. The goal is not weight loss alone, but measurable improvement in metabolic risk.
