Causes of vaginitis
Candida, bacterial vaginosis, Trichomonas, menopause-related mucosal changes, irritation, dermatological diseases, or cervical pathologies can cause similar complaints. An accurate diagnosis is the most important starting point for local treatment.
How is it applied?
Following a gynecological evaluation, an appropriate ozone-resistant local delivery system is used. Mucosa is a sensitive tissue; the dose, duration, and application frequency are individualized according to the clinical diagnosis, mucosal status, and patient tolerance.
Bacterial vaginosis
In a 2025 retrospective study of 102 patients from Turkey, favorable clinical outcomes were reported following intravaginal gaseous ozone. Although the study was not randomized controlled, it presents meaningful human data to investigate the clinical potential of vaginal ozone in the field of bacterial vaginosis.
Recurrent Candida
Favorable signals regarding symptoms and microbiological outcomes have been reported in small randomized studies. The limited number of patients makes it important to confirm these findings in larger independent studies; current data indicate that the local ozone approach is worth investigating.
Vaginal microbiota
The goal is not to eradicate all microorganisms, but to establish the correct diagnostic and therapeutic approach that supports the re-establishment of a healthy microbial balance. The local antimicrobial and redox effects of ozone should be evaluated alongside their outcomes on microbiota balance.
Evaluation in cervicitis and erosion
In cervical or vaginal erosion, bleeding, or chronic inflammation, the underlying cause is clarified first. After performing HPV testing, Pap smear, cultures, or advanced gynecological examinations as needed, whether local ozone has an appropriate supportive role can be determined.
Our Approach at Our Bodrum Clinic
In recurrent vaginal complaints, we first evaluate the type of infection, vaginal microbiota, menopause-related changes, and cervical findings. In eligible patients, we plan vaginal ozone as a local supportive option compatible with existing gynecological treatment and monitor it with symptom/recurrence goals.
