HIFU in localized adipose tissue and skin laxity
Localized fat accumulation and skin laxity can often coexist, but they are not the same issue. In HIFU application, these two components are evaluated separately: skin tightening at superficial and medium depths can be targeted, as well as contouring of the local subcutaneous tissue with deeper focal depths in suitable body areas.
In which areas can it be evaluated?
If tissue thickness is sufficient in areas such as the abdomen, waist, hips, upper arms, and thighs, HIFU can be planned. The same cartridge or energy is not used for every area. The presence of different focal depths between 1.5 mm and 19 mm in the system we use makes it possible to create a more personalized plan according to the anatomical target.
Is HIFU a weight loss method?
No. HIFU is not an obesity treatment or a general weight loss method. The goal is to improve contour in selected local areas and to support tightening if skin laxity is present. If general weight management is required, nutrition, exercise, and metabolic evaluation are planned separately.
Who might not be suitable?
HIFU may not be suitable in cases of pronounced excess skin, very thin subcutaneous tissue, advanced obesity, active infection, open wounds, or medical conditions related to the application area. Conditions such as hernias or recent surgery in the abdominal area are evaluated separately.
When are results evaluated?
Since the tissue response is gradual, changes over weeks and months are just as important as the early appearance. Results may vary depending on the area, tissue thickness, energy plan, and the individual’s biological response.
Safety
Temporary redness, edema, tenderness, or local pain may be seen. In deeper body applications, anatomical boundaries and tissue thickness are carefully evaluated. Rather than using unnecessary depth or high energy, selecting parameters appropriate for the target tissue is the priority.
Our approach at our Bodrum clinic
First, we determine the dominant component of the issue: is it skin laxity, localized adipose tissue, or a combination of both? Accordingly, we evaluate HIFU alone or in combination with other body contouring, weight management, and skin tightening options.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the 19 mm cartridge used on everyone?
No. The deepest cartridge is evaluated only when tissue thickness and the anatomical region are suitable. Depth selection is made according to the individual and the area.
Does thinning occur immediately after HIFU?
The initial appearance may change, but tissue remodeling and contour changes develop over time. It is not accurate to evaluate the results with a single early measurement.
