What is L-Glutamine IV?
Parenteral glutamine has been investigated in specific clinical nutrition contexts; it is not a routine energy or recovery infusion in healthy individuals.
How does it work?
It is a source of nitrogen and carbon for rapidly proliferating cells; it plays a role in intestinal and immune cell metabolism.
In which situations can it be considered?
It can be considered in selected patients requiring parenteral nutrition according to current guidelines and product specifications. IV superiority has not been demonstrated in healthy individuals who can be fed orally.
Level of evidence
B-C – depending on the clinical nutrition context.
Safety and patient selection
Patient selection is important in the context of critical illness, liver failure, and kidney failure. Formulation and compatibility must be verified.
Our Approach at Our Bodrum Clinic
We only consider this treatment after the pharmaceutical characteristics of the product have been verified and the patient’s medical history, current medications, kidney and liver functions, necessary electrolyte-micronutrient measurements, and relevant contraindications have been evaluated. We plan IV therapy not as an alternative to standard treatment, but as a complementary or replacement approach when a genuine clinical justification exists.
Important note
This page is for general informational purposes; it is not a personal diagnosis, prescription, or administration protocol. Administration should not be planned without verifying the label, concentration, excipient, licensing, stability, and compatibility information of the IV product.
