HIFU: Face and Body Tightening with Focused Ultrasound
HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is an energy-based application that focuses ultrasound energy onto specific tissue depths without cutting the skin surface. In our Bodrum clinic, HIFU is planned on a personalized basis for supporting the facial oval, defining the double chin and jawline, neck-décolleté tightening, and body contouring in suitable individuals.
The system we use features 7 cartridges with different focal depths between approximately 1.5 mm and 19 mm. Not every cartridge is used in every area; depth selection is made according to skin thickness, fat tissue, anatomical structure, and the targeted effect.
How does HIFU work?
Focused ultrasound energy creates controlled thermal points at the selected depth. This process can support collagen remodeling and the tightening of tissue over time. In facial applications, the primary goal is to provide lifting and tightening while preserving a natural appearance. In body applications, with appropriate depth and patient selection, skin laxity and local contour issues can be evaluated together.

You can review HIFU applications by treatment area. For each area, the anatomical target, usable focal depth, and treatment plan differ; the boxes below direct you to the relevant detailed pages.
Facelift and Facial OvalTightening in the lower face, cheek, and facial oval.
Double Chin and JawlineA personalized approach to under the chin and the jawline.
Neck and DécolletéTightening targeting skin laxity and tissue quality.
Eyebrow and Eye AreaControlled periorbital applications in suitable anatomy.
Abdominal TighteningPlanning for skin laxity and body contouring.
Arm TighteningDepth selection according to tissue in upper arm laxity.
Thigh and LegTightening and contour support in selected areas.
Waist and HipsPersonalized planning for local contour issues.
Local Fat and Skin LaxityAn approach evaluating fat tissue thickness and skin quality together.
Who is it suitable for?
HIFU can be considered especially in individuals with mild to moderate skin laxity who do not want surgery and aim for natural-looking tightening. In the presence of significant tissue excess, advanced sagging, or different aesthetic needs, combined or alternative methods may be more appropriate instead of HIFU alone.
When are results seen?
Although initial tissue tightening can be noticed in the early period, because collagen remodeling is spread over time, results generally become evident within weeks and continue to improve over a few months. The response varies according to age, skin quality, treatment area, depth used, and application intensity.
Safety and individual assessment
Anatomical assessment prior to the procedure is important. In specific situations such as active infection, open wounds, certain implants or medical conditions, and pregnancy, the procedure may be postponed or a different approach may be chosen. Rarely, temporary tenderness, edema, erythema, numbness, or pain may occur. Planning is performed by taking into account the anatomy of facial nerves and fat compartments.
Our HIFU approach in Bodrum
We approach HIFU not as a one-size-fits-all protocol, but as a personalized energy-based treatment where different depths are selected according to the skin, adipose tissue, and anatomical target. When necessary, we also assess the need for combination with Endolifting, lasers, mesotherapy, bioremodeling, or other skin rejuvenation options.
HIFU or Endolifting?
HIFU is a non-invasive method that delivers energy from the skin surface via focused ultrasound. Endolifting, on the other hand, is a minimally invasive laser approach where a thin optical fiber is advanced beneath the skin. Skin laxity, localized adipose tissue, the targeted anatomical layer, and recovery expectations determine which method would be more appropriate; the two procedures are not direct substitutes for one another.
What do scientific data show?
In 2024–2025 systematic reviews and meta-analyses, HIFU/micro-focused ultrasound has been reported to provide clinical improvement, particularly in mild-to-moderate facial and neck laxity. Nevertheless, devices, energy parameters, application techniques, and patient selection vary among studies; long-term outcomes and standardized protocols need to be better defined.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is HIFU a non-surgical facelift?
HIFU is not the same as a surgical facelift. It is a non-invasive method that supports tightening and lifting effects in mild and moderate skin laxity.
Can a single session be sufficient?
A single treatment may be sufficient for some individuals; in certain cases, an additional session or a combined treatment may be planned depending on age, tissue structure, and goals.
Does HIFU dissolve fat?
In facial applications, the primary goal is controlled tightening and lifting. With deeper body transducers, localized adipose tissue may be evaluated as part of the contouring goal in the presence of appropriate patient selection and proper tissue thickness.
