Laser Therapy in Peroneal Tendinopathy | Lateral Ankle Tendon Pain
Direct clinical evidence for laser in peroneal tendinopathy is limited; 980 nm, which receives indirect support from general tendinopathy data, may be an adjunct option in addition to strengthening and ankle stabilization.

Short answerThe peroneal tendons run along the outer side of the ankle and can become painful due to repetitive loading, sprains, or foot mechanics. Evidence for HILT specific to peroneal tendinopathy is limited. 980 nm is an adjunctive option that receives indirect support from general tendinopathy data.
Symptoms
Pain and tenderness that increase with walking, running, or on uneven ground may be observed on the outer side of the ankle.
980 and 1470 nm
980 nm is more rational for the superficial-to-mid-depth course of the tendon. 1470 nm may be considered selectively in very superficial tender segments; there is no direct clinical data.
Scientific evidence
Level of evidence: C+. General HILT tendinopathy meta-analysis is positive; data specific to the peroneal tendon is scarce.
Our approach in our Bodrum clinic
Peroneal tendon subluxation, tear, chronic ankle instability, and fifth metatarsal pathology are ruled out. Laser is added to strengthening and balance rehabilitation.
