Why does pain persist after a sprain?
ATFL/CFL ligament injury, joint stiffness, muscle weakness, or chronic instability can lead to residual pain.
980 and 1470 nm
980 nm is more rational for superficial-to-mid-depth ligament and soft tissue targets. 1470 nm has a superficial thermal character and may be considered in selected, very superficial tender areas; direct evidence is lacking.
Scientific evidence
Level of evidence: C+. Although the orthopedic pain and soft tissue PBM literature is supportive, strong HILT data specific to chronic ankle sprains is scarce.
Our approach at our Bodrum clinic
The possibility of instability, fracture sequelae, peroneal tendon pathology, and osteochondral lesions is evaluated. If laser is available, it is added to the balance and strength program.
