Inflammaging: Chronic Low-Grade Inflammation and Healthy Aging

What is inflammaging? Examine the relationship of chronic low-grade inflammation with visceral fat, sleep, metabolic health, and healthy aging within a clinical framework.

Short answerInflammaging is a concept describing the chronic, low-grade inflammatory burden that can increase with age. It is not a disease on its own; it is evaluated alongside metabolic health, visceral fat, sleep, physical activity, and chronic diseases.

Which indicators can be monitored?

Certain laboratory indicators, particularly hs-CRP, can be helpful in a clinical context. However, a single inflammatory marker does not measure “biological age,” and results can be influenced by infection, exercise, smoking, obesity, and many other factors.

What can help reduce it?

Regular exercise, reducing visceral fat, adequate sleep, avoiding tobacco use, a diet rich in fiber and plant diversity, and blood pressure and glucose control are the fundamental approaches. Supplements or advanced interventions do not replace this foundation.

Our approach at our Bodrum clinic

We do not reduce the concept of inflammaging to a single laboratory result; we evaluate it alongside metabolic status, body composition, sleep, oral-dental health, chronic inflammatory diseases, and lifestyle.
