Med AudioColor and Neurofeedback: Area of Use and Level of Evidence
Med AudioColor is promoted by its manufacturer as a system that combines audiovisual stimulation with a real-time neurofeedback/biofeedback approach. The manufacturer’s materials include a very wide range of claims such as concentration, sleep, stress, anxiety, depression, immunity, inflammation, “detox,” and organ regeneration. All of these claims should not be considered confirmed by high-quality controlled clinical studies specific to the Med AudioColor device.
What is neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a training approach aimed at teaching an individual to regulate specific brain activity patterns by using brain activity signals such as EEG as real-time feedback. Efficacy varies depending on the protocol used, the target condition, duration of application, feedback method, and study quality.
What does the evidence say for ADHD/DEHB?
Neurofeedback has long been investigated in ADHD. In a comprehensive 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis, 38 randomized trials were evaluated; in the outcomes of assessors blinded to the treatment group, neurofeedback generally did not show a significant group-level improvement in core ADHD symptoms. A small effect signal was observed in analyses restricted to established standard protocols. Therefore, neurofeedback should not be presented as a replacement for evidence-based ADHD assessment and standard treatments.
Is Med AudioColor the same as standard EEG-neurofeedback?
No. The fact that a device includes audiovisual stimulation and EEG feedback features does not automatically mean it is equivalent to the standard theta/beta, SMR, or SCP neurofeedback protocols investigated in clinical trials. The electrode placement used, target frequency, inhibit/reward parameters, and whether learning actually takes place are important.
Sleep, stress, anxiety, and depression
There are studies regarding biofeedback/neurofeedback and audiovisual relaxation approaches in these areas; however, it cannot be said that Med AudioColor treats these diseases, regulates hormonal balance, or replaces standard psychiatric/psychological treatment. In cases of suspected depression, anxiety, or sleep disorders, disease-specific clinical evaluation takes priority.
Immunity, autoimmune disease, inflammation, and “detox”
Without sufficient device-specific clinical evidence supporting definitive statements that Med AudioColor improves the immune system, provides improvement in autoimmune diseases, reduces inflammation, regenerates organ systems, or “detoxifies” the body, we do not use these claims.
Use in children
If neurofeedback is to be administered in children and adolescents, the diagnosis, developmental level, comorbid conditions, medications used, and protocol selection must be addressed through evaluation by a physician/appropriate specialist. Rather than absolute statements such as “it is safe at any age,” individual suitability is evaluated.
Our approach in our Bodrum clinic
If neurofeedback is to be administered, whenever possible, QEEG/EEG findings, clinical goals, and standard protocols are taken as the basis. For example, in an appropriate patient, protocols such as SMR 12–15 Hz or theta/beta may be selected according to the clinical context; preset programs of every device are not accepted as automatic treatment. Outcomes are monitored with symptom scales, attention/function, and, if necessary, serial EEG measurements.
In our clinic, we position Med AudioColor and neurofeedback not as a standalone device application, but as part of a broader integrative medicine framework. In longevity work, we care as much about sleep, stress response, psychological well-being, and the preservation of cognitive resilience as we do about circulation, muscle strength, and metabolic indicators.
Therefore, in suitable patients, neurofeedback may be included in the longevity plan in order to support the areas of nervous system regulation and cognitive performance. Our approach here is not to place a device at the center, but to create a more holistic healthy aging program by bringing together the individual’s different biological and mental needs within the same clinical evaluation.
