Botulinum Toxin for Bunny Lines on the Nose

Lines that form on the nasal dorsum and sides during smiling or facial expressions are targeted.

Short answerLines that form on the nasal bridge and sides during smiling or facial expressions are targeted.

What is Nasal Bunny Lines Botulinum Toxin?

In botulinum toxin applications, the goal is to modulate target muscle or gland activity in a temporary and controlled manner. Results vary depending on individual anatomy, muscle strength, application area, and clinical goals.

What are bunny lines?

They are fine lines that appear on the nasal bridge and sides, particularly during smiling, nose scrunching, or certain facial expressions. Because muscle activity varies from person to person, whether the line is truly dynamic is evaluated during the examination.

Why is the entire face evaluated?

The muscles around the nose are closely related to upper lip and midface expressions. For this reason, rather than focusing solely on the point where the line is located, smile and nasal movements are evaluated together.

Who can be evaluated for this?

Nasal muscle activity and smile dynamics are evaluated together; excessive or incorrect muscle targeting may affect the smile pattern.

Pre-procedure evaluation

In our clinic, rather than applying a standard dot pattern, our approach is to evaluate history, dynamic examination, facial or functional anatomy, asymmetry, previous applications, and the individual’s goals together. In the evaluation, the person’s medical history, anatomical characteristics, previous applications, and treatment expectations are addressed together.

Scientific evidence

This application area is evaluated on the basis of botulinum toxin’s effect in temporarily reducing muscle activity. Scientific publications and expert consensuses show that patient selection and anatomical evaluation are important for outcomes and safety.

When does the effect begin and how long does it last?

The effect generally begins to appear within the first few days and becomes more pronounced in the following days. The duration may vary depending on the application area, muscle activity, and individual biological differences. The timing of the follow-up examination is planned according to the type of procedure.

Possible side effects

Pain, tenderness, bruising, or headache may occur at the injection site. Region-specific effects such as temporary asymmetry, unintended weakness in adjacent muscles, changes in eyelid/eyebrow position, alterations in oral function, or difficulty swallowing may develop. Rare but serious generalized muscle weakness, swallowing, or breathing difficulties require emergency medical evaluation.

Who might it not be suitable for?

Active infection at the application site, known hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin components, and certain neuromuscular diseases require special caution. Pregnancy/breastfeeding, anticoagulant use, aminoglycosides or medications that can affect neuromuscular transmission, and previous botulinum toxin applications should be shared with the physician.

Post-procedure considerations

It is advisable not to unnecessarily rub or heavily manipulate the application area on the same day. Short-term redness, tenderness, or small bruises may be observed at the injection points. Return to daily life is often possible in a short time; if heavy exercise, intense heat exposure, or another facial procedure is planned, follow your physician’s recommendation based on your individual condition. Since the effect is not fully established immediately, premature judgments about symmetry should not be made in the first hours or days. Contact our clinic if significant eyelid or eyebrow position changes, new vision-related complaints, unexpected prominent weakness, or any other symptom that concerns you develops. Serious symptoms such as difficulty swallowing or breathing require emergency medical evaluation.

Our approach at our Bodrum clinic

Our goal is not to standardize facial expression, but to create a personalized plan that preserves the individual’s natural facial expressions, facial proportions, and opposing muscle balance.

Frequently asked questions

Is the effect permanent?

No. Neuromuscular or neuroglandular communication re-establishes over time, and the effect diminishes.

Is the procedure planned the same way for everyone?

No. The plan is personalized taking into account anatomy, muscle activity, functional characteristics, goals, and previous application experiences.

Why is the follow-up evaluation important?

The effect of botulinum toxin is not fully established immediately. The follow-up evaluation helps assess the clinical response, symmetry, and alignment with the individual’s goals together.
